Characteristics

A new series of CES Omega UPS is available, where for 6kVA and 10 kVA output power factor is 1, nominal power = active power. In addition, ER models have a more efficient battery charger.

EMI/FRI filters in OMEGA UPS

These UPS components provide surge protection and filter out both electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). They minimise any overvoltage or interference occurring in the power cable and provide protection for sensitive equipment.

PFC power factor correction

In normal operation, the rectifier/power factor correction (PFC) circuit converts usable AC power into regulated DC power for use by the inverter, while ensuring that the input current waveform used by the UPS is almost ideal. By extracting this sinusoidal input current, two objectives are achieved:

  • The usable power is used by the UPS as efficiently as possible (higher efficiency),
  • The amount of distortion reflected on the mains supply is reduced.

This results in cleaner power being available for other equipment in the building that is not protected by the UPS.

Batteries in Omega UPS

Omega UPS operate sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid batteries. To maintain battery life, the UPS and batteries are best used at an ambient temperature of 15 to 25°C.

Static by-pass

The UPS provides an alternative power path to the connected load in the event of a UPS failure. In the event of an overload, over-temperature or other failure, the UPS automatically switches the connected load to by-pass.

Standard UPS operating modes include normal (on-line) mode, by-pass mode, battery mode, ECO mode, frequency converter mode, self-test mode.
